What does a guy mean when he says he feels like he belongs to a girl?

My female friend IMed me yesterday telling me that my ex talked to her the night before. She said that he asked her how to make things better between us, and he said something to her that neither her, nor I, understand what he meant.

He said that he felt like he belonged to me.

What does it mean when a guy says that?

My friend and I both didn't know, we just concluded that it sounds nice. Nothing negative.

Then he came over one night and while we were cuddling I told him that my friend told me those things. He seemed really embarrassed. So I didn't push for an answer. :P

He wants you to take charge and to be in control. It won't work out. Sooner or later he'll resent it. He's trying to make it sound like some sort of romantic inevitability but love isn't inevitable. Sooner or later you have to choose to love and you guys, when it came to it, chose to split up.

I'd run a mile until he can show you, his owner, his devotion in more meaningful and practical ways than words.

I think the key thing here is that he said he belongs TO you, not belongs WITH you. There's a huge difference, and unless you want to be the one always taking charge and responsibility for a man who sees his role with you as something like a pet dog, you're going to want to dump him again pretty quickly, and this time for keeps.

Thank you for this point of view! we broke up mutually, so we could strengthen our friendship, because I wouldn't open up to him. we planned on getting back together, but never did. but that's a great point, the difference between "to" and "with". I'll definitely take your advice and wait until he can show his devotion. :)

Well there's a contradiction if ever I heard one.

This is a power relationship and he wants you to be, albeit subtely, the one in control. Maybe sexually, maybe in other ways, maybe both. Either way that's what he wants and what you want too, but you both have a hard time admitting it.

If you want it to work you both have to get honest about it, and then decide what him belonging to you really means, and whether or not you want it.

wow I could never repeat something that someone else said to me about what someone else said to them..i would be worried about embarrassing them- but maybe its not always bad to do that..i think in this case its god you told him so he knows you know..he obvious;y told her so she would tell you

and if he meant it and he was not mad & it was not a line , then he meant that he feels connected to u.

Well I think he asked me: "have you talked to your friend lately?" and that's when I said that she told me. I didn't mean to embarrass him. :( let's just hope for the best and that it means something positive :)

Oh o I know I think it wass good you said something..i was being envious lol....because a friend of mine talked to the guy I like telling him to talk to me, & he told me- my friend did- while me & my guy that I like were walking & for a brief instant , the guy I liked looked relieved like he would not have to say anything. but I did not want to embarrass him * so I said nothing & he said nothing , so I thought he did not want to talk about it & he thought I did notnow I'm in another country:)

well, dear it he meant that he thnks you are imp and you own her.

and I thnk its really goodie if he's trying to make thngs better. al you hav to do is work on your relationshp and make sure thngs turn out to be good.
