Do girls ever act standoffish to guys they like?

This girl in my class looks at me constantly, but when I've tried to interact with her she's been unfriendly.

She doesn't like you then most likely sorry to break it to you. There's this guy in my class that kept trying to talk to me and I talked back being nice and he asked for my number I hesitated but still have it to him bc I feel bad saying no. He blew up my phone after that I was done being nice and just ignore him now and give mean looks. It okay to talk to a girl a little but when her replies are short and she doesn't talk to you first then she doesn't want to talk to you and hiya don't get hints. It's so irritating.

Whoa, I've tried to talk to her all of twice. This was after she kept looking at me all the time for two weeks. The first time she acted standoffish so I left her alone. The second time she just looked away but her friend started talking to me. So it was weird she was there just avoiding looking at me while her friend was talking to me.

Anyways I won't keep bothering her. Just trying to figure out why she keeps looking at me all the time.

from what I've done I've been a b--- to guys who I liked but I'm not sure if that's all girls
although being a b did not help my chances and I felt guilty I wanted them to respect me and not se me as weak
