Why would a girl mention another guy to me?

Question

me and this girl were talking for like an hour straight when we first met, she told me she was single after something in the conversation prompting me to say i was single, but also later on said some guy was hot? now i’ve met her i’ve been talking to her on a daily basis but she mentions this guy every now and then and from what it seems like to me is that he’s trying to set a date? but i’m not sure.

i haven’t openly expressed that i find her attractive or anything and i don’t know if i should, she talks to me more than anyone else since she’s like just moved here 2 or 3 months ago.
she asks if she looks good or not sometimes and i just say “ i guess” or casually agree with her.

i don’t think she’s just being nice since most guys say she’s like one of the prettiest girls in our school and i never see her talking to guys or girls really i rarely see her talk to anyone other than me. she told me she’s shy but also told me about some guys who hit on her. why would she mention these guys?

She is either trying to show you she isn't fully interested in you or she is trying to increase her dating value - she wants you to know she is attractive enough to get other guys. She might also be trying to pressure you into committing to her - that if you don't date her - somebody else will snatch her away - so you better act fast if you want to be with her.

It could be to make you jealous so you will like her. Its really immuture but it can work

She might just like the other guy and see you as a friend, but that can change with time. Just be a good person and friend to her and who knows what can come later.
