What are your views on enigmatic people? Guys & girls?

My boyfriend just says I'm an enigma. I just know I have walls up and no one understands me because I'm not your typical normal girl. I can't decide whether being enigmatic is good or not. Give me your input people. Thanks

Well if you're to interpret an enigma as a perplexing sort of person, there's nothing wrong with that. Indeed, why should we strive to be like the herd. But the phrase enigma doesn't tell us a lot about your personality. So being an enigma of itself isn't such a bad thing, especially in dating, I reckon a lot of women have been interested in me partially cause they couldn't figure me out :) So my advice would be to have a look at your other personality characteristics. Whether they're conducive to a happy and fulfilling life, and whether you treat those around you fairly. That's the sort of thing you should consider. Consider also, that you're very young. You'll pick up a lot naturally as you mature and go through certain experiences. It's always good to be self critical.

maybe I'm suggesting that she shouldn't complicate her self-image by labeling her behaviors and predisposition, as this might make her feel like she should fit some sort of "type" and distance her from her true self. maybe I'm saying that just being herself and not evaluating every trait she has is nice and simple, just like my answer was intended to be.

Not complicating myself. What I've shared is all insight I have gotten from other people. I know how it is and I am complicated whether you think I'm making that up or not. I don't really see why I would want to make that up though? Seriously.

If you were born with OCD or developed an addiction to alcohol, would that be good simply because that's jsut the way a person is? Or do they need adjustments in order for them to cope in society and reach their potential?

It's so easy to go stroll down a field of daisies under blue skies and assume everything is right, but not everything is. People have problems and they need fixing. Being confusing and spiteful like the QA is not normal or healthy.

I have OCD, and I never felt alright about anything I did until I accepted it. It was a lot easier to get over in hindsight, compared to how I saw things while I was struggling with it.

Alcoholism, I feel, is just a kind of escapism, which usually comes from outside conflicts or stress. Some people are more prone to it than others, but I don't see someone becoming an alcoholic for no reason. I consider it a behavioral disposition and not a personality trait.

My moms and alcoholic. Meaning I'm more prone to being one. You're not born with it at all. I agree with boribori90. There's usually a reason for he path someone takes.

Being socially enigmatic is not a state of mind or temperament, it's merely a self-conscience hurdle you must overcome in order to reach your full potential. When you call yourself an enigma, you must be suggesting that you have moments of colorful spontaneity and moments of dull typicality. Which part of you makes you the better person? Overall, you want to be spontaneous and vivid, you want free flowing thoughts because that is your potential. That is what you have to offer society. If you are socially unstable (enigmatic, as you put it), you hinder your chances of being all you can be. So no, it's not a good thing but it can be helped with practice and counseling.

It's not like I'm a little emo that sits in the corner and talks to no one. I'm super straight forward and opinionated, I speak my mind and come off as a huge bitch because I don't like my sensitivity to be known. I don't like to be vulnerable. Go look up what at enigmatic person is.

Then you aren't enigmatic. Do not invent your own definitions to appease your self image, it's about how others perceive you. You asked a question and I delivered based on that information. Is it my fault you are poor at phrasing questions? No, but there is counseling for that. This appears more of a cry for attention, seeing as you self diagnose yourself as a loud mouthed bitch and have the audacity to wonder whether or not this is a good thing.

If I were a cry for attention lol, as you would say it, I would state my whole life story on here to receive sympathy and hear what I'd like to hear, and revert the question to make myself sound the way I want to. Did I state in my question that I'm opinnionated? no I did not. Next time I will put more information so that maybe people can get a better understanding of my question so thatthey can anwser it. An enigma is a puzzle no one can solve. I suppose I percive enigmatic behavior differently
