Why didn’t my sister congratulate me on my new job?

I qualified for this position with Appen Butler Hill recently (we help Google improve the search engine) and I told her via WhatsApp as she messaged me to thank me for giving a present to her son for his birthday but I didn’t even get a congratulations out of her. She totally blanked me. Now, she homeschools and is a stay at home mom so she is busy but it’s basic decency to say well done or congrats right? She is a born again Christian and she has been out of paid employment for many years. I don’t understand why she didn’t wish me well. We’re not super close and I only see her now and then but we’re not enemies either so I don’t understand. What do you think?

Okay just cause ahe chose to stay home and take care of her family DOES not make her a bum that is not fair to any mother who chooses that path instead of employment. Next you said you two aren't terribly close and you just got this new job helping Google no less she could be a little jealous or even just forgot but if you contacted her just to get a congratulations that's a little self centered

Sometimes it takes my messages a week or two to reach my friend on WhatsApp. It could be a network issue?

Also, she could have received it while closing out of your chat so it appeared as read?

She was focused on thanking you for your gift, which you should appreciate. If you want a congratulations out of her, maybe say "did you know I got that job I was hoping for?"

Maybe she just knew you could get the position and thought you weren't the type of person that needed empty sentiments to make yourself feel validated in the world?

I think if it bothers you this much, you should ask her directly. None of the answers you get here will satisfy you enough, so just ask her.
