Can a 16 year old girl wear sexy lingerie?

i'm 16 who lives with her mother. i pretty self conscious and dont really feel sexy. i asked my mum whist we were bra shopping for some pretty basic black lace panties with a matching bra. nothing too over the top. she cut over me and asked a whole lot of questions such as "why? you dont need sexy underwear" and "no way are you are going to be showing guys" first up i dont even have a boyfriend and i wouldn't be showing guys at all. i just want them to feel sexy for myself, if you know what i mean? how can i show my mum this? is 16 a ok age for this kind of underwear/ bra?

It's a mom/parent thing. I don't think any good parent will ever understand, respect, or condone such desires from their (young) children.
That does NOT make it wrong though. If you only want it to boost your self esteem then by all means.
For things like this, you're just going to have to find your own way. Here's my golden rule: You feel okay with it: you do it, you don't REALLY feel okay with it: you don't. EVER. You're in charge.

I can understand wanting to wear things that make you "feel" sexy... but seriously you're 16, listen your mother. There will be plenty of time for this kind of thing when you're older. Childhood doesn't last that long dont wish it away and dont waste your time or your energy worrying about this kind of thing... focus on your school work and plan for your future.

We all love someone with a good self esteem, although don't go over the top. Always do things for yourself, if you don't feel sexy, do what YOU want to feel more sexy.

Get the lingerie, age doesn't really matter as long as if it's for YOU!

But, most parents see their childern as perfect. So try to understand your mothers point of view, but also attend to your needs and wants for you and you only.

Yeah, That’s the most common age that teens, especially girls develop a more mature view of themselves and want to explore and find themselves. As long as teens are prepared with proper precautions in case things happen then parents loosen the leash a bit.

Try to explain to her that you want to feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin and how the stuff you're currently wearing is making you feel

I don't think there's anything wrong with having it, however, thongs at your age, are where I draw the line. I still think that she should be 18, when she starts wearing thongs
