Yes, my first boyfriend was extremely shy and insecure in high school, and of course bullies loved to target him. I didn't really protect his life or anything like that, but I stopped them from picking on him by telling them to fuck off. In hindsight, that may have unfortunately made things worse since they probably would've used the fact his girlfriend was the one to stand up to them instead of him as ammo.

However, if we were in a life threatening situation and there was anything I could do, you bet your ass I would.

Of course. You always protect and defend those you love from hurt and harm. Whether that be your spouse children, parents or anyone in your life you care about. The gender they are has no significance. I would protect anyone I consider friend or family.
