Why is she suddenly acting distant?

It feels like she’s acting guarded like a defence mechanism and protecting herself from me but I don’t understand. We aren’t in a relationship or anything but I feel like we were getting closer to a stage of more then just friends.

Well, there's plenty of reasons for her to do that. No one does something for no reason unless they're crazy. I guess it could be that she felt uncomfortable from something that happened.
Maybe, she doesn't want things to get serious.
Maybe something personal happened to her.
I suggest communicating with her in a friendly chat for no one will ever give you the right answer beside her. Trust me.
Nothing is certain.
It doesn't even have to be from you.
Communication is the only way to set things straight. What would you have to lose?
Just don't tell her what you thought it could be like: are you getting distant because you feel we're being close?
Just be neutral and ask: is everything alright? I felt you were distant lately. I hope I didn't do something that bothered you or made you uncomfortable.
She might tell you something you didn't realize on your own.

I actually have asked her if I’ve done something wrong but she says no it’s nothing it’s just her study. I don’t believe her though. She says one thing but then acts the same distant/guarded etc. I feel like she’s holding something back from telling me. What could I have said that made her uncomfortable? I don’t think I said anything that would make her that way

What if it was just her studies? When in university days, I get so stressed out by the overload of work, my mental health degrades, I want to see no human, just have time on my own. Plus, there could be some times of 'the time of the month' that makes us sensitive, emotionally unstable, and such other effects.
Don't blame yourself too much, I'm sure it'll be clear with time.

Yeah that’s what I thought but she just acts that way around me so I think I may have done something wrong or she has some feelings for me and maybe that’s why she’s guarded I’m not sure

I have asked her but she says it’s nothing it’s just her study. I don’t believe her though something doesn’t feel right and it’s like she won’t open up and tell me.
