Why would a girl keep running back to a toxic relationship?

She's been with the same cheating and abusive guy for 4 years. No matter how many times they break up (possibly over a hundred by now), she always run back to him. No amount of convincing from her friends will make her leave him for good. Even though she KNOWS he's not good for her. He's the only guy she's been dating since 2017.

I could be very wrong. But in general there’s a lot more shame when a girl leaves a relationship compared to a dude.

It’s kind of the same thing where when one dude sleeps with a bunch of girls they’re considered a player, and somehow “good at the game” but if one girl sleeps with a bunch of guys she’s considered a whore?

In my opinion I think she’s staying with him because typically the older you get as a girl people see you as less valuable compared to dudes who age gaining resources, seniority, etc.

So while guys can waste away their 20s and dating lives with a whole horde of different partners - girls tend to want to just find someone to buckle down with and stay with them as they get more older down the line - even if they are a total dickwad

She’s probably staying with him out of a deep insecurity. Like if she leaves him then she’s now valueless (which I not true at all). Only thing I could say is to constantly remind her and let her know that she is attractive and deserves better/has more self respect than that.

And if they don’t want to see that in themselves than the best thing you can do is love them from afar and not beat yourself up about not being able to save them from their shit.

As some one who has been there it takes a special type of person to show why the relationship is toxic. my tip is just be gentle with her and show her that there is more to guys then well what she has.
by the way you speak of this girl it seems you like her as more then a friend.
Maybe try being extremely gentle and explain why you and her friends are worried about her and when there is another break up be there for her and reassure her. tell her your always going to be there and maybe ask her out on a fun day in or out. Show her that there are more sweeter guys out there then the toxic person she already has.

there are some people who for some reason are attracted to toxic relationships, even if they break up for good her next relationship is probably also gonna be toxic, her instinct is messed up so I think the only solution is when she eventually realizes that she'll have to ignore her instinct when she meets a guy who she thinks is gonna be good for her
