How can I stop my girlfriend from biting me?

We've been dating for 3 months and she has always been biting me. She constantly gnaws on my arm like it's some chew toy. I ignored it at first as it was funny and ticklish but now it's starting to get annoying. She sometimes even bites me when I'm sleeping (like 2 or 3 times). They dont hurt but it's kinda annoying me. How do I stop her?

Well, I can tell you why she does it, but stopping it might be harder.

She is doing it because she thinks you are cute most likely. If she is leaving marks then she is claiming territory. It's sort of a primal thing within us. She could just also have an oral fixation. I know I do and I am constantly biting my cheek or nails or anything I can get near my mouth (guys stay out of my dms, I dont mean that in a sexual way).

Think of it this way, ever hear a woman tell a baby something like "aww I could just eat you up?" Seems weird to say when taken on its own because who legit would eat a baby? It's just that a baby is really cute and it triggers that response, because subconsciously/primally we think that is a potential threat to our existence. Over time we moved away from those murderous urges and replaced them with habits like squeezing, biting and making comments like that.

How to stop her? Build up her confidence? Give her another outlet? If she is chewing on everything, then get her something to help with it that isn't your arm.

She gives me Mark's (they aren't scars or anything) that last for a few hours. Who is she trying to show me off to?

Not showing you off, claiming you. Could be self conscious fears she is going to lose you or she feels vulnerable. When she is getting that way, try to be extra affectionate and see if she stops. Don't reward the biting, but if you can see she is getting into that mindset be proactive and give her positive affirmations and see if she does it.

Just say something sweet or a hug or kiss, but not for the bite itself. If you see her getting to that mindset or even before just remind her how lucky you are to have her or just comment how smart or pretty she is. Stuff like that.

Otherwise... get a spray can with water and spray her when she misbehaves? When it comes to dogs it isn't about making an interaction distinctly negative or harmful, they really react to the shock (paired with a clear reason as to what caused it).

I actually did that as a joke but she got all defensive saying "I'm biting you because I love you. I'm not some dumb animal."

Well there has to be some reason. Conscious or not. If it is truly beyond her control and she sincerely want to overcome it then as much as the spray can was just a joke it isn't a horrible idea.

If it is not beyond her control or she does not want to stop it, then the issue really is more of a communication level and what are you comfortable with. If she for example just has a need to somehow actively touch you that could be replaced with stroking your arm, head or some other enjoyable activity. If it is her jaw specifically that needs working, well some suggestions I will leave to your imagination, but she can always nom at you with no teeth should that be fine.

Really though. She either wants or does not want to stop doing that. And how you can handle it depends on her attitude.
