Is it instinct for men to want to protect a girl?

I've heard that from quite a few guys, and always find it hard to believe.

Because if that was true, wouldn't that mean that there was no domestic violence, no rape and no violence towards women at all?

So I don't know, either that statement is not true or a lot of men are not wired right. Or am I missing out on something here?

I think guys are socialized to protect women, and if they are socialized in an environment that sees violence against women as acceptable, that is how they will act.

Many of the men who beat their gf's/ wives grew up seeing their mothers beaten by their fathers or their boyfriends. Rape is usually something done for power, which is not at it's core about sex, as hard as that is to believe.

Guys who want to assert their power over a girl who they believe they have the right to do what they want to. For example a rapist was interviewed about what went through his mind before he raped and he said: "When I see a hot girl it makes me feel weak/ helpless, even more if she turns me down, after all what right does she have to say no to me, when she is just a helpless woman. So I do what I have to, to feel like a man/ to feel powerful again/ and to get back at her for her "offense."

As far as an instinct that is ingrained in our genetics I do not believe that because although there are some guys who would die protecting a girl, there are also guys who would trample over a girl in order to save their own life. Instincts tell someone to survive, while the highest values of society teach us to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

yes its instinctive to protect women and children, something inside you goes gorilla when you see bad things happen to women and children, I think this also plays into why men want innocent women as a mate because non innocent girls are not worth protecting in an evolutionary stand point and that's a large part of being male.The spousal abuse thing is just what happens some people are d***s, look at all the women that have abortions, bad people exist in the world its just a part of life you can't fight it

i think women are more protective. they are constantly trying to make sure things are organized & everyone is getting their needs met & getting their work done. guys just want to control people. so they say 'protect' but they mean 'control that's why the same guy will beat up a guy who hits on his girlfriend, then beat up his girlfriend for the guy hitting on her. cause he wants to own her, not protect her.

more time should be given to women learning to fight instead of guys talking abut protecting them from their bad peers. if you are going to tell me I need you because you or your 'kind' might hurt me, you are the last person I want protecting me.

I am going to now how to protect myself,anyways its important to know how t fight. no one can be there for you 24/ 7 &who would want that. protection is not respect.

if men didn't use violence against women, women would not need protection, so they should get off their ego, & hold some punching bags. IF they want to help & not just feel powerful.

yes people generalize way too much. especially on gag. :) & yea nothing against people wanting to be helpful but that's a bandaid. you need to be able to depend on yourself. as to a lioness would not rip the sh*t out of any approaching predator.

You have to understand that not every person is wired right. It's unfortunate, but true. The other thing is that guys feel protective of those that they know and care about. You'll do more for someone you know and trust than a stranger. I think guys also try to keep their protectiveness in check just in case they become overbearing or controlling. That's a no no. I don't know exactly what you were asking, but I hope this gave you some help. :)

Well depends on the person because there are people who will watch someone be raped or murdered and do nothing. Women have been hero’s as well some people it comes naturally to and others not so much.

But violence I understand but people who are white knights are pathetic. If they defend women who are in the wrong.

Some men protect. Some hurt… Same with some women. It depends on their character.

in the world there are good guys and bad guys. for the good guys that had become the minority yes we like to protect and look out for our girls. I look out for girls being innapropriatly touched at my school and am well recieved. I believe that is the right thing and is the least I can do for the world.
