I, as a girl, can only say what would make me feel better since I can’t speak for others. I think girls appreciate quiet attention which is just sitting quietly with them and let them talk without interrupting. Sympathize with them but make sure you are listening to them as well.
Listening is always a key action to making a girl feel better.
If it were me, I would need lots of snuggles. I'd really appreciate some reaffirming words to encourage me. A treat would be nice too. Maybe a random box of my favorite chocolates or my favorite drink.
Wait... girlfriend or sister? Either way, do something that she likes. For example, getting involved in a hobby of hers.
Talk to her about stuff that you know will make her smile and giggle.
