What does it mean if a guy takes the seat right next to you on the first day of class , but then leaves after a few minutes and takes another seat?

I have had several guys do this to me? I mean they never spoke to me, but just after after a few minutes after glancing at me...

It was almost certainly for attention. They hoped you would notice them. They were likely too shy to strike up a conversation and hoped you'd start one. That or you're just overthinking it and they sat there for no particular reason then moved for a reason that has nothing to do with you.

i would do the same thing, if they don't notice me, then I just say "forget about it"

They just wanted to see if you'd make some gesture toward them,and when you didn't, they felt uncomfortable about being next to you.

well, if you don't smell bad or something I can only guess its maybe cause they wanted to get to know you/talk to you but chickened out or were waiting for you to talk to them?

Well 'sceneofthecrime' suggestion is good because shy guys don't want to feel pressured to say 'hi' or ask you out and sitting next to you. . .well, what excuse do they have now to not talk to you? There is also race, as some guys don't like certain skin color. If you're in a gang, and the guy knows it, he doesn't want to get into a confrontation with your bros as to why he was sitting next to you. These as just some reasons guys will switch seats like that.
