What does it mean if a girl keeps telling you I wish I could make it up to you?

There is a girl in our class which I have a crush on, and sometimes she asks me for help doing assignments, etc. What I'm noticing is she usually keeps telling me she wishes she could make it up to me somehow in return whenever I help her with something. Could it be a sign of her interest in me and a sign of her wanting me to ask her out or it's simply her being gratitude and nice? I've never asked her out officially and our relationship has been more of a friendship than romantic so far.

Probably just gratitude but I had a similar situation in my school years and if I hadn't been dating someone already, she definitely made it clear that she was down for my affection
