In my opinion, that person does not know the meaning of the term "dating".

She does know you casually and that is perhaps what she means to say but in order to date a person, both must be on the same page and must have been together, at least a number of times for a number of hours.

She is probably confused about the term and could just have meant to say that she is communicating with you rather than dating you.

Maybe you should give her an update on the term so that she is not confused about it.
