My ex was taking a class and I checked out a textbook for her that she needed for it. I got dumped months ago and the class has ended since then. I tried asking for the book back after I got dumped but she claimed she’d return it. Over the the summer I got a lot of emails from the library demanding I return it, so she never returned it. I sent her a text a few weeks ago saying: “hello, hope you are well, I’ve noticed you haven’t returned the textbook, please do so at your earliest convenience”. This was the first time I’ve reached out to her since getting dumped. She still has not yet responded to that text. Can someone please tell me why she would still have the textbook, let alone ignore my message when I tried being polite about this? I just don’t understand why she’d do this especially when I didn’t do anything terrible towards her and returned her things asap.

The context of the separation is the key of your problem.

She dumped you for a reason and it is this reason that causes her to behave the way she does. You state that you did not do anything terrible to her but this represents your point of view only.

However and to your defense, she acts childish if she does keep the book for that reason. You will have no other option than to meet her face-to-face and settle this issue in a friendly manner.

If, despite the fact that you reach out to her in a friendly manner, she does not return the book to the library, then you will have no other option than to either tell the library that you are no longer in possession of the book or to pay for a replacement book. Good luck.

I certainly agree that it’s from my point of view, but I never insulted her, cheated, etc from when I state I did not do something terrible. I would attempt to see her regarding the book but considering she ignored my first message and I’ve only seen her once since (it was just a passing by on the street and the guy she was with stopped and said hi to me and we didn’t say anything to each other, she just kept looking at me) I don’t see how that would be possible. Nonetheless, I appreciate your answer, and have contacted the library about the book, we’ll see what they say. Take care!

I haven’t texted her since getting dumped, the only text I’ve sent since getting dumped was the aforementioned one since I’d like to get the book back and I never see her in person
