Should I sit next to him?

Hi everyone. I’m here asking advice for myself. I’m a shy 25 year old in college. I’m very insecure so I don’t talk to much people because I feel unworthy of anyone’s attention. In one of my classes, there is a boy who I noticed since first week of class and I think he’s cute. Last week; I sat slightly behind him but we talked. He is also very shy. But he talked to me first, and after class he asked what my name was and we exchanged numbers after he asked if I’d like to and I said sure. & he texted me once since last week and a pretty short conversation. Is he just being friendly classmate and should I just continue to only sit slightly behind him? I’m not much experienced with this and I also don’t want to get hurt over a crush I have. Any advice on how I should approach this? Thanks everyone
