What does it mean when a bartender (F) at a student nightclub gives a free drink?

What do you mean you cannot tip? Isn't that pretty customary at a bar? What is preventing you from tipping the staff? Just curious. I wouldn't read too much into this. There are tons of scenarios that could have caused her to give a free drink.

Maybe the person that ordered it left. Maybe she made one too many. Maybe she likes you. Who knows? Only she does. If you think there is even a chance that she likes you, chat her up.

Just remember that it is her job to be friendly and nice to customers. Hitting on her while she works is something she is likely sick of and brushes off but secretly curses under her breath.

Wait until she is done with her shift or not working. That or see if she chats to you when business is slower. Again, that is really no indication since it is her job to be nice to all customers.

Still wondering about this no tipping rule this establishment has. Never in my life heard of that considering most bartenders and wait staff live off of tips.

thanks for the reply. So its a student nightclub run by the students union, so they make drink super cheap for nightclubs and I have never heard of anyone tipping there-nor do they ask for tips, because students want cheap nights out. Its also the UK, I know America has a stronger tipping culture if thats where ur from. Also, she didn't 'make' the drink per se, because I got a few bottled drinks and she gave me an extra. I saw her give me 5 not 4 but only charge for 4, I like the wait till its quite idea to chat perhaps haha

You are welcome. Okay, that makes more sense then. No, I am not from the US by the way. I get what you are saying now though as the reason for no tips. So, you may have to wait for an opportunity when she isn't busy to chat with her and see if you can pick up positive signs.

If you do, then you can ask her if she would like to do something sometime when she isn't working. I would make sure you have a pretty good idea that she wants to meet up and remember that she is at work.

Yup, maybe she's working next week and I'll see her, but nightclub scenes are pretty sporadic so its unlikely I'll see her-i think its just best to ask then and there so no ambiguity. Iv had a few scenarios where girls have done somewhat flirty things and i didn't ask into and just assumed it's nothing, but trying not to be that way anymore

Who cares... there's 100 better looking women in every random shopping mall on Monday morning, bro. You're getting obsessed because she was 'nice' to you. Never pick/chase women because they started something. Always do it because you would have done it even if they did nothing.
