So my parents were very strict about making sure my brothers and I all learned to speak to woman respectfully. So ma’am was a usual for me as well as referring to a woman as Miss. Jones or what have you. It blew my mind when girls got mad at me when you was your age. They don’t fight it as much now that I’m a little older. And I have learned to be a lot more careful with it. But yeah some of them get really mad.

If I was a woman, it would not be offensive if it was the first time. Ma’am is reserved for the dead Queen of England.

I always assume they're military. Most military guys I've met have always been proper and respectful.
