Nurse here. Yes, women can absolutely die while giving birth. Obstetrics isn't my specialty, but I've had plenty of women end up in my ICU due to complications during birth.

Yess pregnancy and birth can be very dangerous. With my 3rd I had to deliver him early cuz if not we both could have died if I went full term.
