Isn't it scary that we can die during childbirth?

My friend's daughter is now 5 years old but both her and her baby nearly died. She had amniotic fluid embolism along high blood pressure suddenly and her baby had stopped breathing once. She was in ICU and her baby in the NICU.

She's an only child. That couple almost lost their daughter and their first (and only) grandchild. The guy almost lost his wife and child.

That was a horrible experience for her. First she nearly dies and then when she recovers, her baby nearly didn't make it. Something so naturally and relatively easy can turn into a life threatening even. Isn't that scary?
