Being self-critical means to be aware of one's own shortcomings and to evaluate one's own actions and performance in a critical manner.
Some people may think that being self-critical is a good quality that shows humility and honesty, while others may think that being self-critical is a bad quality that shows insecurity and negativity.
On the positive side, being self-critical can help one to identify areas of improvement and to learn from mistakes.
For example, a student who is self-critical may review their test results and find out what they did wrong and how they can do better next time.
A worker who is self-critical may seek feedback from their colleagues and managers and use it to enhance their skills and performance.
A friend who is self-critical may apologize for hurting someone's feelings and try to avoid repeating the same behavior in the future. In these cases, being self-critical can lead to personal growth and development.
On the negative side, being self-critical can also cause one to feel dissatisfied with oneself and to lose confidence in one's abilities.
For example, a student who is too self-critical may focus only on their failures and ignore their achievements.
A worker who is too self-critical may doubt their competence and avoid taking on new challenges.
A friend who is too self-critical may blame themselves for everything that goes wrong in their relationships. In these cases, being self-critical can lead to low self-esteem and depression.
Self-Critical is the tendency to beat one's self up unfairly. One tends to judge oneself more harshly than others along with a continuous scrutiny and it is part of their personality. It becomes laborious to be around, therefore, long-term relationships are nearly impossible.
