Why do girls hide social media status?

The girl I was friends with and was trying to be more than friends with declined my offer to hang out by making a silly excuse. I replied with "ok" and the next thing I notice is that I am no longer able to see her stories.

What the women in my life tell me is, "it is worse than the dating apps if you have your status out there to see... who needs the stalkers and crazies... at least with dating app I can shut down my profile easily." Goes on about keep SM for friends and figuring out who they are etc.

It is clear that she has no interest in you. No response then no interest.
