India still has a very patriarchal social order. Nevertheless, in some families, it is also important that the boys undergo the above ritual, not only to improve their own karma, but also to show the women the respect they deserve. When boys are regularly required to bend down in this manner before a female respecter, they learn to show submission and humility to the ladies. With our rather ubiquitous male society in the Western world, I am not sure that this kind of submission would indeed find a lot of fans, quite the contrary.

I have a hard time believing that the younger generations would agree, never mind tolerate, such a sign of respect to women. In most parts of the world, women are rather oppressed than tolerated when it comes to equal rights. I doubt that showing that kind of respect in the US, Western Europe would stand a chance at all.

Men would probably see it more of an affront to their gender or then would directly sexualize and objectify the feet like a number of those that have kinks and fetishes about female feet.

No, our Western civilization is gone way beyond that kind of display of respect towards women.

I can agree with your post to a large extent; and that is exactly why I deliberately formulated it as a question. The fact remains that women in many parts of the world are more or less disadvantaged and all too often have to experience violence (for me and many other men an absolute no-go). In education, therefore, a little humility can not hurt, which is expressed by this ritual. Whether these boys then become well-behaved gentlemen cannot be generalized, of course; in this respect, your objection is absolutely justified. But there are also some boys who let themselves be benevolently influenced by it and later treat their wives well (as it should be). Whether this ritual could be enforced in the western world, I also dare to doubt; I personally rather rely on voluntariness and inner conviction. My point is to let an exchange of opinions about it take place, and also contrary opinions are always welcome! A society also develops through pluralism of opinion; we can all learn from this.
