Was I accidentally rude asking a girl her background?

A girl came up to me in the gym and we just started talking. I had to be home soon because I had company coming over so I just said well I have to get out of here so my name is Anthony , what is your name? She said Geed. I never heard of that name as I am Italian.

So here’s the part in which I’m not sure if I was accidentally rude.. I responded “oh what is your culture “ and she answered Arabic. I said oh nice that’s a beautiful name and it was nice meeting you. She continued to be super nice and smiled as I went my separate way.

thinking about it now, I’m worried I was accidentally rude asking that. The name caught me off guard and I was genuinely curious.. but I need to know the truth.. did I mess up?

No arab would call their culture "arabic" especially since arabic is a language not an ethnicity

I’m not sure what to say to this because she definitely 100% responded “Arabic” .. it may be because I asked it in an odd way accidentally and caught her off guard who knows

Okay good.. my friend was with me although not part of the conversation. He told me It was rude to ask.. she was super sweet and nice so I would absolutely hate if I accidentally offended her. I don’t even care about my chances with her.. I just genuinely don’t want to offend someone who is being very nice to me

No I didn’t intend to as gorgeous as she was. I don’t like hitting on girls at the gym because it could make it awkward in the future when I just want to workout lol. Besides I notice girls who are interested tend to find a way to get my number. She told me the days and times she goes to that location and all so maybe she intends to keep talking to me who knows. I just try and treat everyone respectfully and hope I leave a good impression on them that’s what is important to me. Things naturally go well from there I find
