I like it. I think most people looks aesthetically pleasing especially girls. I like wearing crop tops for this reason and some ethnic clothes in my culture that doesn't cover stomach because it's seen as something pretty/feminine, so it's very common here and I do stop and think for a second "Oh, they look pretty" before going on with my day, lol.
Actually what you described to him is actually pooch not really tummy. Tummy basically means stomach. A little bit of fat on the stomach is called pooch/stomach pooch.
I find not only pooch but also plus size girls adorable. So, I don't get why some people including my friends and former housemates want to get leaner.
