Sublime - Saw Red. What is the meaning of the song?

DRUGS! It's always about drugs! lol That's what I think at least, and the song (as many songs do) just use a women and a relationship metaphorically. Also Bradley Nowell, the lead singer overdosed on heroin, which leads me to think that it's about it.

This line is makes it clear for me, heroin makes a person feel low once shot up, then high afterward, and it don't make no sense. Red = Blood, you know, heroin, needles, etc.

Heroin is the secret lover here; shot one dead means shot up, and it's punny :)

Like a dog, out of control or something... Maybe the drugs are like a leash that controls him. Heroin has become as much a part of his nature as it would be for a dog to be on a yard.

He wishes he wasn't addicted, but sadly he is. He wishes he were sober, but realizes that he would feel angry, depressed, and destructive.
