Have you ever discovered the meaning to a song which was painfully obvious?

I listen to, sing and even performed this song for school talent shows and I never realised the meaning until a couple years ago.

He's singing about someone asking for ✨space✨.

When I first heard this song, I thought it was just about a guy lamenting in his own head over his missed opportunities with a woman in another relationship that he loves (patience to get over her). Then I thought it was just about a guy waiting for a woman to break up her current relationship so he can profess his love for her (patience to wait for her). I've learned over the years that it's actually far more deep and complicated. It's about a guy who tells a woman in a troubled marriage that he loves her and she tells him that she actually feels the same way. She wants them to be together  before  leaving her marriage, but he says no. He wants them to wait until she's divorced (" You  and  I'll  just use a little patience"): "Said 'sugar take the time 'cause the lights are shining bright'" (you need to finalize your breakup, the ball's in your court) "You and I've got what it takes to make it" (being together for the rest of our lives) "We won't fake it" (be your side piece) "I'll never break it" (her marriage vows) "'Cause I can't take it" (being without you, but also, I won't take another man's wife)

this is general but when i was little i heard the phrase “making love” in multiple songs and i thought it just meant what it sounds like, like being in a relationship with someone

When I was a little kid I would sing a Sheena Easton song called Sugar Walls. It wasn't until I was in my 30's and gave it a listen after a 15 year hiatus. It was about her cooch. It wasn't subtle in the slightest but as a kid I had no clue.
