Girls, Would you date a guy with a 17 year age difference, I know the answer is most likely no but just curious?

If he was 37 and you were 20 or if he was 57 and you were 40. I know most young women will say no because it’s based on chemistry, stages in life, passion. The perception if he’s older by that wide of an age gap there will be conflicts and he might tell you how to live your life and all that stuff. But what if he 10 years younger for his age, he was mature, made you laugh, settled, had his own place, you clicked with him, would be okay with it?

Probably not, partly because I've seen the struggles that come from an age gap relationship (differing life states is huge), and partly because I myself am "young for my age". Sometimes people only a couple years older than me still feel way too old, even if it's obviously unfounded. At the end of the day, I'm not sure I would ever develop interest in him to begin with, let alone have the chance to see if we "clicked".

Well I mean you’re 23 if you’re 40 and with a 50 year old you will see the world in a different way.

No I agree with that. Age gaps get less weird the older you are. I think 17 years is probably too much for me though. At that point you really are running into vastly different ages of retirement etc.

Yeah the retirement age thing does pose a problem. However, if a guy is 40 and you're 23 but people think he's in his late 20s because he looks young, active and in shape. He works hard to make money and invest and he's a caring father that raises the kids right. By the time he retires it may be a good thing to have a stay at home dad as the kids reach their late teens or early 20s one day themselves. If he tells you, hey, everything is under your name and the kids name through a legal will when he passes away, he's basically giving you financial support so that you are taken care of. I look at that way as well. I'm in my 30s, people mistake me for being in my mid to late 20s. I feel energetic and young at heart.

Both my parents look really young. They have an 11 year age gap, but they're now at the point where my father is retirement age, but my mother is still very much working. He's wanted to move as he transitions into working less and take on a lot of hobbies that also affect my mother's lifestyle. But she's still working and can't engage/participate with his new activities the way he wants. This has created a significant amount of conflict as they try to navigate giving my father the life he wants while still letting my mother keep her job and honestly it's been kind of messy. They have to live separately half the time due to the distance to her work from the house my dad wanted. I don't want that situation for myself, so I really don't even want a 10 year age gap. (Also, retirement age is 60 something, if a man wants to be a stay-at-home dad after he retires, he'd have to have kids in his late 40's/50's to be present when the kids are young enough to need care, even with early retirement.)
