Like instead of asking about things in my life such as how college is going or work she was like oh you’ll tell me but I wouldn’t always remember. Is that fair to not really show an interest and automatically expect your partner to tell you. But on the opposite side I was expected to show an interest in her work and things she had going on.

Yeah of course you are supposed to take interest in your partner's life and things they are interested in. That is part of a relationship. It shouldn't be one sided either. She should ask you about your day and what is going on just as you ask her. That is the way things are supposed to work. It shouldn't be all about just her and her never wanting to know how things in your world are going.
