Why would a woman behave this way?

There was a woman that a friend of mine used to work with was mean and nasty to him when she was around her friends. The woman acted weird when they weren't around. One time, when he looked at her, she smiled and winked at him despite her saying things like can, "I have the food in the containers today, hurry up" or asking where things were rudely. Why would she act differently when she was or wasn't around her friends?

Hmm that's a weird situation man. Some possibilities for why she was acting like that:

- She might have a crush on your friend but isn't comfortable showing it around her friends. So she's mean to him when others can see but nicer when alone.

- She's insecure and wants to look cool/tough in front of her friends, so she gives him a hard time. But when it's just them she acts how she really feels.

- There could be some underlying tension or drama between her and her friends about your buddy. So she takes it out on him to impress them.

- Maybe she's just playing mind games cuz she likes the attention, even if it's negative. Keeps your friend wondering what's what.

- Long shot, but sometimes people are really flirty/nice as a cover cuz they're actually shady. Testing to see how your pal reacts maybe.

Hard to say for sure from here. I'd say your friend shouldn't bother stressing about it much. She seems confusing - maybe just be polite back but keep some distance. No need for games, ya know? Either way her problem, not his.
