Argument with my girlfriend?

My girlfriend did not do good one semester because she stayed home multiple times between mental health and her period. She joked about going to sleep with me and I mentioned her school schedule. She got upset and asked to not lecture her and give her a chance to make up for not doing well on her first semester. I first said got it, she was upset so I elaborated and said I'm sorry it came off as a lecture and will give her a chance before saying anything. I then proceeded with saying I'll talk to her later and since it was nighttime I just waited till the next day. The next day comes up and I tried to ask how her period is and move on. She got upset I was moving on from the argument because I didn't text her after my apology. Was I wrong in this situation

- When she said not to lecture, you should've just dropped it then and there instead of saying more. No need to explain yourself, that probably came off defensive.

- Waiting til the next day to talk was fine, but you messed up by bringing up the argument again right away. Should've just asked how she's feeling in a caring way.

- She likely wanted to feel heard the night before, so waking up without a "we good?" text probably made her think you weren't fully listening.

My advice - take a step back, let her calm down, then hit her with a genuine apology. Say you care about her health and school, but don't want her to feel criticized. Promise to be more sensitive when she's going through stuff. Once you talk it out, don't bring up the argument again - just move forward treating her extra nice for a bit til she's truly over it. Go the extra mile to prove you're supportive. Y'all will be straight just got a communicate better next time something's bothering her.

You aren’t her parent, you are her boyfriend. Know your place. Her academics are her responsibility and she needs to hold herself accountable. If she wants to make excuses for her academics, that’s on her, but don’t start pointless arguments just because you don’t agree with her excuses in subjects that have nothing to do with you. If she complains about bad grades, then hey maybe then that’s when you should point it out
