Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI play games. It's okay to have a hobby. You could be reading books or watching Tiktok or YouTube or literally anything "useless."
I'm going to say it's important to know when to put the controller down. Sitting in a room with someone ignoring you is more lonely than actually being alone. As with all things you'll need to find a balance. Some girls won't mind, some will. If they're worth it, compromise with them.
But if they "hate gaming" entirely, then that's their prerogative, but it's illogical to me to be that way. Many things are a waste of time. It's okay to relax for a second. It's not okay if it's so much relaxation you forget about your partner. Just communicate with each other and see what works. As a kid I'd play games for hours. Now it's rarely more than two or three hours even on an off day.00 Reply

Agreed.
Considering I am a gamer girl I don’t mind them. Just have to have a healthy balance where you’re not gaming 24/7. I have at least one day a week where I just game the whole day but I also go to the gym, work a full time job, do outdoorsy things, read and draw. It is a nice escape from reality for a little bit. My boyfriend also games, goes to the gym, goes fishing, skate boards and works a full time job. It is kind of nice because I always know where he’s at lol. Whenever he gets a new game that he really looked forward to he will disappear into it for a little bit and put an obnoxious amount of hours into it but as far as hobbies go it is pretty harmless. So long as it doesn’t consume your life and you have other things going on I don’t see an issue

+1 yidc if it's a hobby bc its one for me too, so i get playing it for hours but it can't be like a thing that gets in the way of your life or else it's a turn off. i don't play them that much anymore bc i'm so busy like i haven't even been on steam in probably like 2 months
20 Reply a lot of guys play video games but not all of them are the same. Playing video games is just a hobby. I just so happen to like it, so if a guy I meet is also into it then that's just 1 thing we have in common.
Now if you mean "gamers" ... as in they spend a great deal of their time playing, it's what they like talking about the most, and it's just a huge chunk of their personality... Meh, a little too much for me, maybe.

I want a woman who's like that with gaming, but also for science, and sci-fi, and anime, and nature, and tech. - +1 y
Yeah but the thing is gaming is all of that.
A video game is everything rolled into one medium.
There are games that have all those things, and anything else that can exist (and most of what can't exist), in an endless amount of variety.
To spend most of her time gaming is fine by me, its what I do, but what games she plays is the real defining point to be made.

Also she has to be good asf at it. :D

@TheSpaceGnome "Also she has to be good asf at it."
lol hey that's mean.
Anyway, I suppose you're right about video games having the potential to be all of those things and more. It's the reason why I love it so much. I've been playing since I was in kindergarten. But still, let's go hiking and to the beach in real life too 🩷 - +1 y
"lol hey that's mean."
Thats less a jab at you, and more a note toward my love for women who can give me a challenge in a game.
Its not really about potential by the way, video games already are everything to ever exist and not exist. If you think otherwise, then you haven't played nearly enough games.
There are hundreds of thousands of games out there, with more and more being made daily. No one could possibly ever play all of them, but if you have played a few thousand or so, you start to see what I'm talking about. - +1 y
The only good open world rpg (in my opinion) is elden ring. Open world rpgs are usually the worst kind of mainstream games, because gameplay or immersion is almost never the developer's priority with those.
Elden ring is an exception, the rpg and open world aspects are a footnote that is overshadowed by the gameplay, world building, mystery, and grandure. It still feels like playing a dark souls game (which aren't open worlds and take a more linear approach), just with more areas to go to.
Most of what I'd recommend is going to not be open worlds, not because it can't be made good, but because very few devs decide to make good ones. - +1 y
Most open worlds copy the MMORPG formula (to their own detriment)

Skyrim is a broken, buggy game that follows half of the the mmorpg formula, and half of the first person shooter formula. It gives too many choices to the player, and as a result of this, most of those choices cause the game to malfunction and corrupt save data at worst, and break balancing at best. Players know this and mod it to an extreme to try to make it at least playable or to their liking. It is the most modded game in history because people want that formula to work, even though logically it can't.
I can't recommend it.
I'm not a fan. Not becuse I think they're bad (unless they spend too much time gaming and are lazy), but because they have a significantly different lifestyle than I do, and could be spending their time more constructively from my perspective. It means we have different values (doesn't mean all, but we don't have enough of the same values), different drivers in life, and different ideas of the future. So we're not compatible

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yPrefer TTRPGs to video games, but any kind of gamer is cool. That being said, I wouldn’t want a guy who games to the exclusion of focusing on school or work (mostly school, I’m not really old enough to date a guy who’s out of school and has a full time job yet).

10 Reply I see gamer as a sliding scale. I game and and totally get wanting to prioritise gaming sometimes, but I don't let it come before irl responsibilities and I'd except the same from any guy.

Gaming is just such a waste of time. Sitting at a screen playing a game. Escaping reality. It's just screams loser. Sorry. Ad I get that there a really aucessful people who game. Some people need that kind of dopamine thing. It turns me off completely.

You'll never get that, because to us, gaming IS the quality time.
We want a woman who will pick up another controller and play with us, not tell us to put ours down to spend time with them.

Meh, you can’t be productive 100% of the time unless you’re a workaholic. Typically the people who judge people for gaming have an equally wasteful habit of browsing social media or watching TV.
