So my friend/work friend, mostly with messages she send me starts with hey babe and it weird me out because I feel you should only say that to your partner.
Now us two are strictly platonic, not even any flirting, we get along great at work and that's how I like it, not that she isn't attractive but I don't see her as more than a friend/work friend.
Now I'm sure this is just a passive of the tongue like when a girl say he's sweetie or hey hun but am I wrong in finding this "hey babe" saying weird?

Nah dude, I wouldn't say you're wrong to find that kinda weird. I can see why "hey babe" would make you do a double take coming from just a work friend.
Even if she doesn't mean anything by it, calling you babe seems a little more intimate than like "hey sweetie" or whatever. That's more of a casual friend thing. But babe feels like it crosses a line into couple territory.
I'd maybe just shoot her a subtle text back being like "yo what's good, how's it hanging" or something normal casual. And if she hits you with babe again, you could lightheartedly be like "haha what's with the babe, we keeping it professional here."
I wouldn't make a big thing of it, but setting that boundary could stop any potential confusion down the line, you feel? As long as you both know you're just coworkers shooting the shit. Better to clarify now so it doesn't get weird later on. Just my two cents - let me know what you think!
I have friends, and even acquaintances that do use these nicknames, and not only with me but with others they're close or know, and like as well
it's not a big deal, and it's not weird either... it is just less common than calling hey Dave... or whatever your name is, lol
If it is strange, you should tell her that you prefer not to be called like that.
People are different, for some it is strange and for some it is not (since they are baby'ing everyome). You should respect your boundaries. It's not nice if you do not like it
