I understand he’s wishing me well but why not keep it simple?
It sounds like he is just letting you know, that since you 2 ended up broken up , and not together anymore , he is wishing you the best and basically saying whatever happens with you , in the future without him by your side , he hopes nothing bad happens to you. It’s his way of saying he doesn’t hate you , he still considers you a beautiful person , Just because 2 people break up , it doesn't mean you have to hate each other , you both just weren’t compatible with each other. The same thing happened with my ex wife and I , we got to a point where we both knew we weren’t compatible anymore , we were constantly butting heads , and not agreeing on things , we don’t hate each other , we just know we weren’t good for each other anymore. We both wanted different things. I still love her and wish her the best for her future without me.

What he wrote seems pretty simple as it is. Is there some additional context to his statement?
How would you have preferred he write his well wishes?
It's just another way of breaking up on a happy note. He doesn't have that love for you as a sexual partner but he does care about your feelings as a friend, so he doesn't want to hurt you while breaking up.
He wishes nothing but the best for you. Is not that complex to understand that I think you're just overthinking.

It is actually pretty simple. He still cares about you and said a very basic sentence that he actually means. Don't think too much about it.
Probably is religious person like me, it's actually a very simple way to wish you well if that is the case.
He did keep it simple that says everything that needs to be said in as little words as possible.
I don't know. Ex's have said some very strange things to me too over the years!
To me it says "I don't hate you, but I literally never want to talk to you until the day you die"
