Why would a girl go from constantly staring at me from a distance and showing interest to ignoring me?

This girl and I have been making prolonged eye contact from a distance for a few weeks now. When close she would look at me and smile. Now she acting weird and pretending not to see me when I get close to her but she still occasionally stares from afar
