Why would this girl be worried about the fact that others will joke about her liking me and me finding out?

We are pretty close, she is a university mate, and she often would tease me, mock me, seek my company, ask about my zodiac sign, joke about the fact that we are not compatible, and bring up my hypothetical girlfriend (that I don't have).

Not sure I completely follow here. She jokes about her having a thing for you? And that it worries her? I think that is you are asking. Maybe because she doesn't find you compatible she worries that if enough people think you are a good match you might think so too and make a move. That can ruin a friendship and that might be why she is worried. It is really the only thing I can think of in this scenario. Nothing else that is coming to mind makes any sense to me. Not too sure what the rest of the details has got to do with anything. That just sounds like being friendly and playful.
