Soooooo are Dominicans black or no?

Like from what I understand Dominicans are in fact black but are there Dominicans who aren’t black? Like is that a thing cause I used to talk to this one girl very beautiful and she was Dominican but she didn’t look black if that makes sense.

Dominican is not a race, it’s a nationality. So, yes there are black Dominicans, as well as white and so on and so fourth. Anyone can be from Dominican Republic if they are born there.

In terms of racial makeup, there is a large influx of Africans that are in DR. Most of which are mixed. Same with Brazil. You will find a lot of black people in Brazil. They are defined as Afro-Latinx.

I do not think that mixed ancestry people are automatically black. They are of mixed race. Most have a larger quarter of Latin ancestry. It’s not like the US where anyone of African ancestry is defined as “black” they are mixed race Latinx people. Not black, and most don’t look black they look mixed.

Well what you’re talking about cover ethnicity not race. Race wise Dominicans most Dominicans would still be considered black especially if there’s mixing with blacks which a large part of DR is Made up of.

No, they wouldn’t. If you google the racial makeup of Dominican Republic, the percentage of black Dominicans is at 7% and mixed Dominicans are at 74%. That is not “majority.” And this racial mix of black can be from generations back to a parent. And no, the rest of the world does not work like that. If a person has a black parent, they are mixed.
This is even how it is in Africa. Tyla the singer, is defined as a mixed race African in her home country. Not a black. She is mixed race. Most black people are very distinguished from biracial people. And most Dominicans do not look like a black person.

I think USA is the only place that still does that “if you have any black ancestry you’re automatically just black” which is very outdated and created by white slave owners to classify the mixed race slaves born out of rape. Even in Japan, half black japanese are still classified as mixed race Japanese, not black. Mixed is its own race classification and we really need to normalize that.

It literally just depends on their race/ethnicity and how they qualify it. (Lots of people are mixed, but usually only refer to themselves as one or two things.)

There are black Dominicans, there are Mestizo Dominicans, and there are even White (Hispanic) Dominicans.

When enslaved Africans were taken from Africa, they weren’t all brought to the United States. Some were brought to the Caribbean.

Most of them are mixed
