Is it strange for me to be "fascinated" by my new (and first) girlfriend after 23 years of almost no attention from women?

If the title sounds strange, I'll clarify.

So as you can probably guess by my username, I'm shy. Very shy. And my whole life I've neither had female nor male friends. So the lack of attention is not just from women.

I even struggled with friends, and I'm not sure if any of my friends were ever "true" friends and not just acquaintances. We got along fine at school and all, but they never invited me to anything outside of school.

So I never though I'd get a girlfriend, and a very beautiful girlfriend at that, both inside and out. And it wasn't even hard because she came up to me, I didn't come up to her.

I met her about 6 months ago give or take. We met at college. For the record, I have learning disabilities and have 100% failing grades, but I still go just so I'm not just home doing nothing, and when I tried getting jobs I'd get panic attacks and get fired.

But either way, she was really nice and really outgoing. She more or less talked to everyone, even quiet or unpopular people.

If it matters she's 25.

I honestly don't know what she saw in me, but me and her started talking and got along really well.

One day she asked me out, which I didn't expect at all. And that's where things started.

In my mind I was basically going: "OMG A WOMAN! AND SHE'S SO CLOSE TO ME!"

Since I was unfamiliar with being around women, I'd ask her questions about everything, and she didn't mind answering.

For example, when she was changing in front of me and put a dress over her bra and underwear, I asked if she was going to wear shorts under her dress, and she told me no it's not necessary.

Another, when she put my hand on my thigh and then I put my hand on her thigh (bare skin) I noticed her thigh was really smooth, and I asked why her thigh was hairless and so soft. She told me she shaved and used lotion.

And those are just two examples. I try to be as respectful as I can, and so far she's reacted positively.

I feel kind of silly, but in general I'm not too smart.

If you have failed to have any close contact with any gender and then suddenly are faced with a close encounter with a woman, then it can be a fascinating experience since you have no "reference" to go by when you have suddenly that opportunity.

I find it nice that you have gotten that experience and that you have made that experience. Don't let anyone tell you the contrary. I do hope for you that your relation can deepen and that you can find what you have been seeking for that long. Good luck to both of you and hope that all works out for you.

Thank you so much! Glad to hear these feelings are valid and I'm not just weird or crazy or whatever, lol.
She certainly brings out the best in me. I'm usually shy and introverted, but she brings out my more caring affectionate side. Lots of hugs and cuddles, too! I've literally never hugged anyone but her since my parents were not the affectionate type. But every time I see her I can literally just run up to her as fast as I can and hug her tight, and vice versa, lol.
I do certainly hope it lasts forever. I've never even connected to my parents on this level, since my parents are so cold and distant.

It hasn't been 23 years if you're 23 now... You spent a few years not knowing what a girl is...

So let's say 18 years... If it's your first girlfriend it's normal, ok? Just relax and enjoy the experience.

That makes sense too, since my very first memories were around 5 years old. 5 years old was just before I entered kindergarten at age 6.

Lol. Yeah, bc we don't really gain awareness of "gender" till we're forced to socialize in kindergarten/elementary school. Before that it's just mom, dad and whatever siblings happen to be around us.

I'm no psychologist, but that does make perfect sense!
I think I read somewhere that your brain quite literally "reboots" at around age 3 or so, so it's impossible to remember anything before 3 years old.
Though I also read that some people have horrible memories and can't remember anything below age 13.
But yeah. Just mom and dad and siblings. For me no siblings, only child. Lol.

Oh, you mean as in physical appearance?

Well for me (male, 23) I'm around 5'9 and average weight for my height. I have pale skin, medium brown medium length hair, medium brown eyes, I have no facial hair, and I only have a small amount of body hair.

As for her (female 25) she's around 5'11 and also average weight for her size, though she is pretty curvy and muscular which adds to her weight on the scale even if physically she doesn't look overweight at all. She has medium brown skin, dark brown very long hair, medium to dark eyes, and she shaves all her body hair apparently.

And yeah, she is slightly taller than me. She's slightly heavier than me according to the scale but doesn't look it.

In general I'd say she's way too good for me, but she chose to be with me, so I guess I'm not so bad after all. Haha.
