Hey, I need help understanding a situation with a girl I’ve been seeing. We frequently ran into each other at the same place, and we often locked eyes. I noticed her looking at me when I wasn’t looking, which made me more interested. I started going to that place with the intention of confessing my feelings, but I began seeing her less frequently, though I still saw her friend.
One time, I saw her with a boy, but they didn’t seem like a couple. We made eye contact, and I smiled, but I couldn’t bring myself to approach her. Eventually, I checked her social media, found out how much we had in common, and decided to message her.
Later, I saw her in person, approached her, and mentioned my message. She seemed distant and said she didn’t know what I was talking about. After confronting her a third time, she told me she has a boyfriend.
Now, I’m confused about what to do next, but I feel that might have been a sign to back off.
She changed her profile picture a day after I sent her a message, which seemed suspicious since she’s an active Instagram user. I think she posts to seek attention, while I don’t. She's a cat person, which makes me hopeful she’s single. When I saw her, she wore a razor blade necklace, which didn’t suggest happiness. I tend to get attached easily, and it feels like she likes me but causes me emotional pain. I’m unsure if I should try to reconnect, given that she hasn’t responded to my messages or made her account private. Should I reach out again or leave it be if i want her?

Wait... you are confused what to do about a girl in a relationship? You do nothing. It is over until she is single again. That is as simple as it gets. It doesn't matter what happened between the two of you previously... she is involved and that is your signal that it is over. I see you are trying to read into all these signs like the necklace and the fact she has cats. I mean you are really reaching for any sort of sign to go ahead and interject yourself in her relationship. Just don't. The only thing you need to know is that she has a boyfriend. Ignore all these other "signs" or what you perceive to be signs. They aren't and you are just wishful thinking that she is begging for you to contact her. She avoided you and was distant. That says it all.

Could it possibly mean she’s testing me to see how far I’ll go? This has been going on for a year. When she said she had a boyfriend, it was the same day I approached her—five days ago. But I didn’t act the way I said I would; I was scared and shy. I was probably expecting a response because I thought she had received my message, but what if she hadn’t? Without that context, I’d come off as a complete creep.

I agree with Maya, give her relationship the respect you’d want given to you and yours. You can’t just turn her man and relationship into nothing more than obstacles to surpass, and she’s not allowing that anyway by being distant and unengaged. I’m not sure why you go out of your way to misinterpret these interactions and make them mean what you want them to mean but it needs to stop.
