That's odd. My sister is married to a Cancer man; she's a Scorpio. They are very happy both have water dominant charts, but I could see a Scorpio and Cancer not working if the Cancer had a lot of Leo in their charts. Same with a Pisces who had a lot of Aries in their charts since Aries squares Cancer and is deemed the most incompatible sign with your sign.

Definitely give him space, if you pursue him you run the risk of pushing him away even more so let him think and make a decision. Additionally by not bending backwards for him when he does go cold you're asserting your confidence by remaining grounded and he will become more attracted to that
