Have you noticed childrens books being sexist or racist and do you read them differently to adjust for the biased writing?

I just read the little engine that could. Here's the punch line... the girl engine broke down... none of the strong boy engines would help. Along comes a small girl engine that "thinks she can..." and gets the job done.

Totally sexist as heck. I'm going to read the book (printed copy) differently so there is a 50/50 distribution of whom is the good guys and bad guys. The child won't know I'm switching words.

Either way, we should all own up to being better and more considerate of others, have more empathy and be more helpful. It's something I'm owning to do better.

I hate that book, it fills young minds with nonsense that'll one day hurt them. Children should be taught just because you think you can do something doesn't mean you can. Graveyards are full of people with that mentality.

As for sexist/racist many were written at a time when those ideas were the norm. Look at the golliwogs in old Noddy books. Even R. Dahl was openly racist in real life and it comes through in his works.

If you don't like it buy your kids modern books written for the modern era.

Govt doesn't give a crap. I realize you don't either, but it's nice to not be hunted. laying low in life, is good.
