What’s it like to be a girl? Advantages or Disadvantages?

The reason I ask is because I am curious. I have always wanted to be a girl. And I’m just wondering what is good about it? Are there disadvantages as well? If so, what are they?

There's lot of advantages and disadvantages that I find personally but what may be a disadvantage to me you might find as an advantage.

If you really wanna ask yourself how you feel there is always the button test. If you could press a button to make yourself into a woman fully but could never go back to being a guy, would you press it? If so, then I think you believe the advantages outweighs the cons.

Also, I saw you mention in another post that you've always felt that way. Have you had a chance to talk to a gender therapist about your thoughts?

Yes I would press it. No. I have never talked to a gender therapist. Too afraid to tell my parents how I feel.

Are you afraid they won't be supportive or a danger to you if you did or is it just an embarrassment thing?

I’m afraid they won’t understand. And my brother will tease me! And my mom and dad will be ashamed of me.

Its very possible that they won't understand until you explain it to them. Brothers tease all the time regardless of the topic so that's just something you will have to deal with unfortunately. Over time though if you do start a social transition (meaning you try out a new name, change your clothing, etc) it will just become normal and the teasing will stop.

As for your parents not being supportive, are they more conservative or liberal?

Ah, well, you have to wait until you move out if you don't feel comfortable talking to them out of safety concerns. Though you'd be surprised that some conservative parents have changed their lines of thought after their child has come out

I'm sure there are both advantages or disadvantages with both sexes.

But in general I think girls are treated better.
Maybe it also depends on where you live and culture and such.
But at least in western societies I think girls are generally treated better.

Girls get more positive feedback, have easier to get help with things, are allowed to be vulnerable and so on.

As a man it sometimes feels like you are not allowed to have weaknesses.
Like you essentially supposed to be a one man army that solves every issue by yourself.
If you're a guy and your down no one cares. You're supposed to man up and deal with it.

Well it can be easier to get what you want sometimes by batting your eyes but you always have to be on alert

Okay, so it is nice that (most) guys treat us well. The little things, like opening doors. There are intangible things like "women's intuition" and girls typically bond closer with each other.

Most of the downsides are physical. Be it more physical limitations than guys. Then there is the always fun we get periods for a good part of our lives. You are only 14. Wait until sex ed... you'll learn all about the crap our bodies go through.

I have actually heard about those things. Those can be definite disadvantages for sure, but I seem to get along better with girls. All my friends are girls. I like talking to them as if I was a girl too. I like hanging around with them and how pretty they are. And how they don’t have big egos like boys do. So, I just feel like I would be okay with things like periods and stuff if it means having all the great traits girls have.

Maybe that’s just me.

That is good that you get along with girls so well. Nothing wrong with that at all.

As for periods, we get used to them. I don't have much of a choice in the matter. It is a part of life. Like I said, there are tons more things to list both good and bad. I can only say that personally, I am happy being a girl. I wouldn't change if given a choice.

I’m not happy as a boy. All my friends always talk about how they like being girls and stuff too. And I find boys attractive. So, I’m really happy for you, and all girls. I wish I was in your shoes, even if there are still a few more disadvantages you didn’t mention. Thanks for your insight. It’s very comforting to talk to someone about this.

Having an attraction to boys could be a sexuality thing for you. You are still so young. Don't worry, plenty of time to figure that out and nothing wrong if that is what you choose.
