What is your biggest insecurity when meeting new people and how does this affect your interactions?

I don't really have any insecurities about meeting new people. Male, female, young or old, high or low status. I don't really care. But I do have a fear. That they are going to be painful to have a conversation with. Dumb as a bag of rocks. Ignorant of history, current events, and the world around them. Mired in belief and utterly lacking in cognitive ability. The conversations end up being meaningless small talk about nothing. What's the point?

I hate the conversations and I suck at faking interest when I'm bored. I'm constantly looking for an exit ramp. So I'm generally an introvert and don't give people an opening to start a conversation. One sentence answers. I don't ask any questions that would prolong the conversation. I create long silences. That's unsettling for most people. it gets them to go away, LOL.

My only insecurity is to have other people around me being stupid or dangerous and me failing to notice or account for all of it.

I do my best to dodge the proverbial asteroid field that is society, but there is just so much crazy shit out there..

I don’t get them anymore. Something “clicked” for me at some point in college… my energy was the right one for that level of engagement.


If I meet someone who is negative towards me I just give a little smile and walk away. They usually come over later when they figure out I’m there for a reason, know people, am kind to the service providers so I always get a little spoiled, etc.

always remember no one is stupid because intelligence is not a fixed quantity. plus i tend to notice the ones who feel that they might be or think others will think that of them turn out being the ones with the best ideas

Real or perceived?
The only thing i don’t like about myself i don’t think about unless i’m looking at myself in a mirror. It never affects me otherwise.
I know that i don’t communicate the way other people do. So i expect that people probably think i’m strange, and that’s off putting to some.
The most prominent factor in how i approach meeting new people is my introversion. It takes a special person to understand an introvert and accept them as a friend. I haven’t met many and it gets more difficult to make new friends with every passing year.

I don’t have any. When I was younger sure, maybe. But even then I don’t recall having insecurities in meeting people. Especially now at my age after spending 10 years in the military. Being in numerous countries where people w want to kill you. Working in a prison for 8, having inmates yell at you, cuss at you, threaten you, etc. Now working in the hospital where people can be just as bad. After all that what could some say to me or do to me that’s going to feel insecure?
