Because we're just wired to want the things we can't have. Starting from childhood where we would want the most expensive toys that our families just couldn't afford to adulthood to where we want people out of our reach for various reasons.

Hahaha challenge! What you can't have becomes more valuable.

In relationships it's said that to get a man to chase you raises you as more valuable in their eyes (true or?). Does thos work in reverse? Possibly. I know I'm more attached to men I can't have easily than the ones who fawn all over me.

In dieting: haha its classic. As soon as you ban yourself from certain foods its all you can think about and want!!

It works well if the think you want IS achievable. If it will just take some work then wanting it more gives you the drive to succeed in getting it and greater pleasure when you get it.

If it's something you can't get with hard work (for instance love in my case) it becomes a thorn in your side chasing what you can't have!
