I'm pretty femme, so I'm more used to being asked out, but I did approach my wife and I can tell you it was a disaster that somehow ended up working out. The main points for me anyway are being confident, having a sense of humor and knowing how to stand out against others who may have approached.

Is your type more femme or butch or something sort of in between? That could also affect how you approach.

Well, as a tall girl, I like not having my height really being referenced. I'd rather be complimented on my outfits or just skip compliments altogether and just be entertained by someone with a good sense of humor. If you can make me smile, that's going to land you a date faster than anything else you bring to the table, and I'm sure that might hold true for other women as well.

Not saying compliments won't work, but a lot of butch women like taking the lead, so let them. Approach with an opening and then let them sort of take over. My wife leans more towards the dominating side, so I let her take over after my initial approach, and it worked.
