Avoid places with a reputation for trouble
Use common sense, e. g don't wander down that unlit alley at night.
Judge people by their looks, if he looks like a criminal he probably is.

Don’t be walking alone after dark. Be aware or your surroundings and the people around you. Take a basic self defense class.
