A female coworker complained that the men and women have different uniforms at work. Was she right or wrong to complain?

She was right to complain. It wouldn't be fair to have one sets of guidelines for one person just because she is a woman and another just because he is a man. Either should be able to wear what they want (within reason, I suppose. No showing up naked or whatever) or they need the same uniform..


And I read your response to the other opinion and before you talk about women not complaining about their tips, I fully believe we should be ending tipping anyway and just pay people a living wage. That would eliminate that issue.

The woman wear a tight tshirt and short skirt. The men pants and a shirt.

@brakelightdance Should be nothing wrong with the same uniform for women and women if it is appropriate for both. Do you want to wear sexy uniforms because you think it will get you more tips?

Wrong. Lets take bars of which there are a few levels... say

1. Dive bar - anything is OK, just like the patrons.

2. Party bar - Need to look like they are partying to reflect clients. Bar men basically neat. Bar girls push up bra with deep cleavage - good for tips

3. Sophisticated bar. White shirt, black tie, waist coat black pant

#3 has a uniform but it is not as wearing the same uniform hides gender but can in fact emphasize it. There is a point wearing a uniform at a sophisticated bar because it is part of the sophistication. As the bar staff's gender is obvious, what is the problem if the female staff are given black skirts.

It might be gender stereotyping but the girls body has gender stereotyped her already!

The whole concept that the bar staff should be gender neutral dressed is FITH.
