Why were emojis bald?

They started bald and now they got all kinds of different emojis lol

The very first one from the late `60's was just a yellow circle with a smiling face on it and, in some cases, it had, "Have a nice day" written under or over it. It was just something anyone could draw. After a rash of children in the early `70's accidentally poisoning themselves by drinking or playing with toxic chemicals most people had around the house, someone came up with the idea of making the yellow smiley face into a scowling green face called, "Mr. Yuck". These were printed on stickers for parents to place on the containers of these chemicals and they'd teach their kids that if they saw that on something, they were NOT to touch it or play with it because it was VERY bad for them!! And, if they discovered that another of the kids in the house DID play with it, they were to call an emergency number across the bottom of the sticker for help.
Over the next decade or so, a number of people started making variations on the smiley to depict different emotions. Computers became all the rage at this time and people started typing in these "emojis" in ASCII and, after another decade, or so, someone came up with ways to just make actual pictures of them, making them a lot easier to post on messages and that's when they started calling them, emojis.

Emojis were originally designed to be simple and neutral.

Making them bald keeps them universal , no specific hairstyle, culture, or trend attached. It helps them represent everyone without implying age, style, or identity.

Less detail = more relatability.
