I can't speak for women in their fifties but I can speak for myself and indeed, I do prefer a stress-free life without a man (or woman) either as husband or as partner.

I am the kind of person that likes her freedom way too much to want to be chained to a person. I am not into fornication and much prefer my single life. I am single and celibate by choice and that suits me perfectly.

I don't have to perform when I don't want, I can do what I want and whenever I want without having to refer to a partner that would probably interfere.

That's a great approach to being able to do those things on your own at your age and still be able to do them when you're fifty.

Considering how many of them just settled in their marriage and fell into a routine full of default parenting and home management styles, yes. It makes complete sense that they would rather be alone than with a mediocre man who just gives them more chores to do.

I have never met any that have said that, so my guess is that would be rare.

Being single isn't my preference at the moment. There's a lot behind my feelings, but I'd love to have a partner who understands me and shares my goals.
